Bar soap can therefore alter the skin’s pH enabling the types of bacteria that cause acne to multiply. Bar soap also contains thickeners which can block pores. Finally, bar soaps strip the skin of all natural oils causing the sebaceous glands to overproduce oil leading to clogged pores.

If facial acne is a problem, consider sleeping on your back at night. When you sleep on your stomach, your face, neck, and chest are constantly re-exposed to the oils and bacteria rubbed off from your hair and face, re-clogging your pores. Also, remember to wash your sheets routinely!

Women who use makeup brushes to apply makeup once or more daily are at risk for serious skin irritation and acne. Bacteria, grime, and dead skin cells can get trapped in the bristles and fibers of cosmetic brushes and sponges.
